In the wake of the Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica, CG United mobilised swift and compassionate relief efforts to support clients and affected communities across several parishes. Our response involved assessing damage and settling our clients’ claims quickly to ensure that they received the funds required to put their homes, businesses and lives back together as soon as possible.
Our Claims Team visited all the affected parishes: St. James, St. Ann, Manchester, St. Elizabeth, Westmoreland, and Trelawny. During visits to Westmoreland and St. Elizabeth, the team went beyond their usual duties by helping customers reconnect with their families using our Starlink device. For many, this reconnection brought good news; for others, it was a moment of heartbreak, as they learned about the loss of loved ones. Our team provided not just logistical support, but also a compassionate presence during these difficult times.
We acknowledge the dedication of the members of our Claims Team who assisted our clients under difficult conditions, and who at times sacrificed their own needs in order to support those requiring assistance.
Recognising the extent of damage to homes, CG United provided funds in the amount of US$25,000 to the Food for the Poor Programme to support roof repairs in the Westmoreland district, which was heavily impacted. This financial assistance is crucial for restoring safe living conditions and helping residents begin the process of rebuilding their lives. Winsome Gibbs, Branch Manager, CG United Jamaica presented the donations to Food for the Poor representatives, Deidre Parchment, Finance Manager and Marsha Burrell-Rose, Marketing & PR Manager.
“This is the first tranche of donations to assist the people affected by the storm with rebuilding. We are committed to standing by our community and ensuring that families have the support they need to restore their homes and lives.” stated Ms. Gibbs.
CG United also donated relief supplies, which included care packages, blankets, and masks to meet immediate needs and bring comfort to individuals and families dealing with the aftermath of the storm. These contributions were warmly welcomed and will help ensure that those in need continue to access basic necessities during this recovery period.
The CG United Jamaica staff subsequently donated their time to assist the Food for the Poor team in preparing 780 boxes of supplies for distribution. Our response demonstrates a strong commitment to the welfare of the communities we serve. By addressing both immediate and longer-term needs, and by providing emotional support alongside material aid, we continue to stand with our neighbours as they recover and rebuild.
